This and That in October

The Tamarac Tree

It's one of my favorite trees, but only in the fall when it turns a brilliant yellow.

My Snow-Covered Sunflower

None of my sunflowers bloomed this summer.....so disappointing. This one tried to bloom, but the snow got it first.

Granddaughter Izzy (Izabella Grace)
 Celebrated her 1️⃣3️⃣th Birthday - Oct 12th

Apple Watches

Izzy and Maddy got Apple Watches and they both opened them together on Izzy's birthday.

September Memories

My Favorite Walking Path

The beginning of September...
(70 degrees)

The end of September...
(40 degrees)

Our Annual fall trip up to Murphy Dome

Murphy Dome is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station, located 20.4 miles west-northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska.
My Mom and Dad's ashes were scattered here in 2008 and 2012. Every year I like to go back in memory of them and also to see the beautiful fall colors (my Mom's favorite season).  I've never made the trip alone. Usually family and/or friends accompany me. This year Nicole, Maddy and Izzy went with me.

65 sunny degrees

Celebrated DIL Nicole's Birthday
Happy # 4?

Here's Nicole with her favorite birthday pictures from her hubby...

Grandson Kaiden Gets a Moose

His first bull moose...shot from 365 yards!

Kaiden named the moose Daniel and
this tag will go on the plaque where the horns are mounted.
Very impressive!

Cloudy with a little rain

Chalk Couture Class

I attended a Chalk Couture Class and painted and decorated these wooden pumpkins.
I'm going to try Christmas trees next. 🎄

Attended a Beth Moore Simulcast

Left to right:  Tammie Becker (visiting Ashley from TN), Ashley Becker Lund, me, Nicole, Ashley Yeats.  It was an awesome day of music and Bible study.

Getting Ready for Winter

  • Cleaned out the flower beds
  • Put lawn furniture away
  • Lit the cimminea for the last time this season
  • Put the window screens away (the windows will be closed for the next 6 months)
  • Turned the furnace in the house back on
  • Put out some fall decorations
  • Put my flip flops away.  ðŸ˜¢

Fall is in the Air....

Fall is in the air as August ends and September begins...

The leaves are turning yellow and falling.
While it's a beautiful time of the year in Fairbanks (mid 60's to 70 degrees), it's usually a very short season. I'm always sad to say goodbye to summer.

The fireweed blooms are gone.
All that's left is the cotton and the hint that winter is not far away.

The Martinson's one-year-old pudelpointer did an awesome job retrieving ducks this season.
Good job, Ben!

Grandson Kaiden got a caribou and meat is in their freezer

 Bake Day with the girls

I had fun "observing" while Izzy and Maddy baked and decorated cupcakes.
You can never have too many sprinkles.

Fun with the  Grandsons

Dinner with Andrew (with the hat) and Kaiden.
I always love it when our tall handsome grandsons come to visit.

Dinner at the Pump House

Saying goodbye to good friends, Lucas and Melissa.
They moved to Wasilla and we'll miss them!

Girls Trip to Anchorage

Before school started the girls (Jami, Izzy, Nicole, Maddy) and I
spent a short weekend shopping and eating out in Anchorage.
We left Fairbanks (driving) at 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning and were shopping at Target in Wasilla a few minutes after 10 a.m.  We were back home by 5 p.m. on Sunday.  Yep, that's a quick trip.

Highlights:
  • Target (in Wasilla and Anchorage)
  • 5th Avenue Mall (a real mall which we don't have in Fairbanks)
  • Dinner at Outback with our friend Brenda
  • Swimming pool and hot tub at the hotel
  • Kohl's
  • Red Robin
  • Arby's
  • DQ
  • Krispy Kreme

Back to School

First day back to school for these two pretty 7th graders!

Kaiden started his junior year of High School.

Digging Potatoes

I grew a few potatoes this year and
was surprised to find a heart.

Another Grand-Dog

Maddy's enjoying her new dog, Bernie - a Boston Terrier.
Bear (with Izzy) and Bernie meet for the first time.

Father-Son Project

Dave helped Geoff build a new shed.
They did a great job and had lots of fun in the process.

Unleaded Gas - $2.77/gallon

Wow, we haven't seen gas this cheap in a LONG time!

I read the "Winter" series by Elin Hilderbrand
and came across a couple quotes that
I am contemplating...
  • Who would have guessed that, at my age, the people I would most want to spend time with would be my grown children.
  • Time remains a mystery. A game of Monopoly can consume an afternoon, and an hour on the treadmill seems like forever. But a lifetime passes in an instant.

Heart Ablation
It's been over 3 months since my heart ablation and I'm thankful to report that I'm fine and have had no more SVT episodes.

42 Years in Fairbanks
August 17th marked the anniversary of our arrival in Fairbanks (from Anchorage)....42 years ago!
Dave was appointed to pastor the Fairbanks Church of God of Prophecy by State Overseer Tom Queener.  Geoff was 15 months old and Jami wasn't born yet. We've seen people come and go, births and deaths, changes galore. Through it all we recognize the faithfulness of our God.

Happy Fall Y'all
